A new radiance at the heart of a storm.
(OR) a young female journalist Aint Kaing Oo.
She is a modern girl. Her free dressing style is Tree Quarter Jean Pant and a backpack. However, in her pocket there are books on journalism, Journals, and poetry books rather than the lipsticks. She is just over five feet with Straight Perm hairdo. All through waiting to achieve the certificate for attorney, following graduating from a Law University and on top of doing the journalistic ventures flamboyantly, all of a sudden (her city) Rangoon was hit by a perfect storm known as Nargis.
She has been collecting news in Rangoon under her own steam by 11:30 AM soon after the deadly storm abated. Her strong voice calling out at me from the midst of debris and ruins with powerful will and determination is still resonating in my ear. “ Ko Paing what we should do now?”. I replied to her to take photos, collect data and try to make a list of deaths and drown for the time being. Then I was wondering can we able to rebuild our city in months. Journalists must alert and swift. You are pretty occupied at the publishing house and when you are out for news, you need to get the original voices of the disgruntled public. This deserter is the biggest of its kind in hundred years. I was occupied with hunting news for the whole week and unable to meet Aint Kaing Oo. When I made a phone call and learnt that, she was at one of the Satellite township of Rangoon, I went there to meet her.
When I reach there, I saw her donating foods to a refuge center and she told me about the program and necessities of rehabilitation materials and medicine for the sick and the wounded refugees. I noticed that she looked tired, lost her weight, and seemed more frail and weak. However, she did not seem to notice to herself. Her eyes were still bright and sharp. Her mind seemed to be full of energy and ready to overcome every challenge. She had been worked hard to send news report to the publishing house and trying all the time to aid and assist the victims of the storm.
She has all the mind and spirit of every young Burmese. As other young Burmese, she is longing for freedom for the youth, freedom for the nation. She has a full desire to free her country from lack of development and poverty. She is always eager to the Burmese people who are suffering in many ways. She has beautiful dreams for the future of her country.
Poor Aint Kaing Oo. In a day in June, she was mistakenly arrested for taking photos. This is what happens to the journalist under the despotic regime.
Her name will be stoned in the pages of history, through the stormy skies as a new light and hope for the justice and for her people.
